Project Background
This Tier 1 Texas Independent School District had a vision to reimagine the learning process for its students, educators and community, to personalize the learning process so that students can align their passions with their strengths.
The goal was to create a platform to help students unlock their individual potential by assisting in discovering where their passions and aptitudes align and aiding Educators in applying Individualized Learning. By giving Educators these insights, they can become coaches for students, so they can create their own unique path in their academic journey.

“The education system in the US
is preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist.”
The Challenge
Mesquite ISD is on a mission to map the aptitudes of students to their passions to deliver better educational experiences and results to their students. Envisioned is a Google Cloud environment augmented by AI, which will detect student passions, map those passions to their aptitudes, and offer new direction and insights into a student’s educational choices. This is pioneering work in a relatively unexplored field.
The Goals
Aggregate aptitude indicator data (test scores, assessments, etc.)
Create categories of “passion indicators” (extracurricular activities, field trips, requested classes)
Aggregate passion indicators and map against aptitude indicators to reveal best curriculum, suggest new areas of study, and provide opportunities for personalized and contextualized deep learning

Reaching students where they are with advanced analytics, profiling, and segmentation increases both incremental wins and long term behavioral changes. By automating specific processes, individualized support is feasible.
Productivity
Educators access to intelligence dashboards district-wide. These provide visualization of metrics, while aggregating student information such as grades, attendance records, and more.
Culture Shift
It’s as difficult for many campuses and staff to make significant changes as it is for them to determine the best place to start. The ability to see the overall picture and understand where things currently stand helps to inform this process. We showed the starting points and created the actionable roadmap to make these changes seamless.
Modernization
Consolidating information and data collection made it easier to see where the information resides and the methods for gathering it. This overhead view identified silos and roadblocks to modernize for ease-of-use.
